19 Steps to Buying a Home

Step 6 Opening Escrow/Title

Now on the back end your realtor is opening escrow with the settlement attorney that you have chosen to work with and your lender is ordered a title history and title insurance. North Carolina state law states that the place of settlement is the right of the buyer, not the seller or the realtor(s) who gets to choose the attorney and place of settlement.

Most attorneys in Raleigh charge about $500 for a typical real estate settlement and title insurance is regulated by the state so the cost for title insurance will be the same regardless of your choice of settlement agents.
